Project Digital Factory connects students with the high-tech work field
Four years ago, Brainport Industries, in collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology, TNO and Fontys University of Applied Sciences, launched the ambitious project “The Digital Factory of the Future“.
The fourteen participating companies in the Southern Netherlands (Brabant) come from the Smart Industry ecosystem with the aim of jointly investigating how companies can make better use of data. Fontys uses students to carry out assignments for these companies, which brings students into contact with technologies that are not standard in the educational curriculum.
The strength of this collaboration lies in the connection between theory and practice.
A bridge between theory and practice
KMWE is one of the participating companies. We submitted the assignment to build a simulation of a Multi-Agent Planning System (MAS) for the shop floor. This system links various software platforms and ensures data exchange, with the aim of better using technology in a traditional production environment in order to produce faster and more efficiently.
To the future
The project ‘Digital Factory of the Future’ is nearing its end, but the next step has already been taken with the national Growth Fund 𝐍𝐗𝐓𝐆𝐄𝐍 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡.
The Digital Factory of the Future is a perfect example of the close collaboration between education and industry, which is essential for the future of the industry.
